Academic Support Coordinator

Position Summary

The Academic Support Coordinator provides strategies and interventions that support the academic development of GCYC members as well as coordinates the Study Buddies afterschool enrichment program.  Students will develop and advance as a result of the coordinators work.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience working directly with youth and program development preferred
  • Youth development or teaching certification a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of youth programming principles
  • Demonstrated understanding of youth development, guidance and discipline principles as well as conflict resolution strategies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care
  • Competency in MS Office applications
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Assess student progress and tailor individual tutoring plans and activities for youth
  • Communicate with schools and guardians on student progress
  • Facilitate Study Buddies for 3rd- 8th graders
  • Train and supervise college interns/ volunteers connected to the programs
  • Assisting with the academic component of summer camp which involves collecting attendance from teachers, inputting attendance in spreadsheet and providing teachers with supplies/ resources for their classes
  • Design a program plan for Study Buddies
  • Co-facilitate group development programs
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Support the mission of GCYC
  • Work collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth
  • Commit to the safety and development of all GCYC members
  • Take on other duties as needed
  • Serve as a role model for youth and community
  • Abide by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures
Environment & Working Conditions
  • Majority of the work is conducted in an office or classroom setting with the use of general office or classroom equipment. Due to the nature of the GCYC campus, travel between buildings may be required with exposure to outdoor elements. Occasional driving and/or travel may be required.
Physical Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Ability to walk and complete building and program rounds
  • Extended standing and extended movement is required for daily programs, field trips and special events
