Culinary Worker

Seasonal part-time position. Hours will vary depending on season and not to exceed 28 hours per week.

Pay Rate

$12.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Culinary Worker assists the culinary department with snack, meal service and special events. Participates in education, career development and training sessions.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Currently pursuing high school, college or another post-secondary endeavor and willingness to commit to the youth employment program. Active GCYC teen or alumni members preferred.
  • Ability to learn and consistently follow safe work practices as well as demonstrate proper hygiene required for food safety
  • Ability to work a standard work week with some Saturdays and demonstrate a respect for attendance, being on time, and communicating with supervisor about work expectations.
  • Must have food handlers license, or successfully complete upon hire
  • Work well in groups and unsupervised for work activities where quality work in a timely manner is expected
  • Remain in good academic standing and attend academic support sessions as required, minimum 2.0 G.P.A.
  • Attend check-in sessions monthly with support coach or UtmostU Alumni Coordinator
  • Ability to abide by the guidelines set forth for participants of the youth employment program
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for certain food service functions as defined such as GCYC daily meals, daily staff lunch, and catering of special events including preparation, food quality, presentation, service delivery and cleaning
  • Assist with catering for special events, meetings, luncheons and culinary classes
  • Responsible for all functions related to clean up and sanitation before, during and after food services
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Support the mission of GCYC and serve as a role model for the youth and community
  • Work collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth and take on other duties as assigned
  • Commit to the safety and development of all GCYC members
  • Abide by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Environment & Working Conditions
  • A majority of duties are performed in a kitchen or café in a fast-paced working environment. Must be able to use a variety of culinary tools and equipment such as knives, mixers, ovens, stoves, grills, freezers, pots and pans. Food safety and sanitation is crucial. Occasional outdoor and off-campus catering (cookouts, patio) and activities (at Farm & Garden) are required. The ability to bend and lift up to 25 pounds, in addition to the exposure to cooking heat and walk-in refrigeration equipment is a must.
