Position Summary

Comer Education Campus: With a comprehensive approach to education and youth development, the Comer Education Campus is devoted to guiding young people to and through college and into adult life. The campus constitutes a unique partnership between Gary Comer Youth Center, Gary Comer College Prep, Gary Comer Middle School, and the college success initiative UtmostU. The campus serves over 2,000 youth from across Chicago’s South Side, offering out-of-school time enrichment, academic enhancement, and college success programs. The Director of College Success serves in a senior leadership role on the Comer Education Campus, ensuring the college preparation work (6th-12th grades) across the campus is optimally coordinated with the post-secondary work of UtmostU.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage an outcomes-driven team
  • 5+ years of experience in the college admissions process
  • Demonstrated propensity to build effective student and adult relationships
  • Flexible schedule with ability to travel on average 6-8 days per month
  • Excellent organizational, customer service, and communication (written and oral) skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Competency with various software programs and an ability to manipulate and analyze data effectively
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstration of cultural competency and dedication to working with the students, families and community members in our care
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the Comer College Team, including the Manager of UtmostU and Manager of College Preparation, who serve a predominantly first generation student population
  • Coordinate efforts with Gary Comer College Prep principals and leadership in support of the campus mission
  • Provide direct alumni support, which includes travel and flexibility in scheduling in order to meet the needs of a manageable caseload of students
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for all Comer College Team members
  • Network and cultivate relationships with colleges and universities
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, track expenditures, and meet grant compliance requirements in partnership with the finance department
  • Act as a liaison to Comer development staff to meet annual and long-term fundraising goals
  • Represent Comer with external partners and board members
  • Manage the UtmostU technology and research initiatives with external partners
  • Participate in special events, programming, meetings, and projects as needed or assigned
  • Abide by established Comer Education Campus policies and procedures
