Position Summary

Position Summary: The Male Mentoring Coordinator is responsible for supporting and furthering the social, emotional, and academic growth of male youth through the Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC). Initially, these goals will be accomplished by designing and implementing a male mentoring program for 7th – 10th grade youth as part of the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative. This initial program will grow to serve more youth across the Comer Education Campus.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with middle school and/or high school aged students.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve effectively.
  • Strong computer and writing skills, especially with the creation of presentations and MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstration of cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care.
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Design and implement male mentorship program at the Comer Education Campus.
  • Recruit youth to participate in CEC programming from local CPS schools.
  • Align mentoring supports with current CEC mentoring and high school transition programs.
  • Work closely with High School Transition Counselor to align high school transition supports.
  • Collect and organize all data required to assess program effectiveness.
  • Chaperone periodic college exploration trips and events.
  • Support the mission of GCYC and attend designated staff meetings and trainings.
  • Take on other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Abide by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures.
