Position Summary

The Membership Coordinator is a part of the Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC) leadership team, working to maintain and grow our position as a flag ship youth development organization in Chicago.  The Membership Coordinator serves as the leader responsible for all administrative aspects involved with the membership intake and program participation processes as well as the functions connected to this body of work.   Leading the membership team, the Membership Coordinator manages the welcome and reception area which is the “face of the organization.  The Membership Coordinator ensures that we are welcoming youth, parents and visitors with great respect and enthusiasm.   The Membership Coordinator also makes sure that the GCYC brand is expressed through the positive and accurate interactions with our youth and visitors be it in person, on-line or in print.  This is done through the management of our promotional materials, management of the membership intake/program enrollment process and provision of relevant data to internal and external stakeholders.  

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of youth development and community engagement.
  • Competency with various software and web-based applications. Experience with Efforts-To-Outcomes and Microsoft Excel is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care.
  • Experience with the formation and presentation of data analysis reports.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with reporting for grants.
  • Ability to manage projects independently.
  • Readiness to work on team projects.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Serves as lead administrator for the GCYC membership/program data system (currently Efforts-to-Outcomes).
  • Responsible for the membership process including intake, collection of fees, data entry, and distribution of membership cards; assists with the coordination of member orientations.
  • Responsible for the management of lobby operations including electronic attendance scanning (building attendance); member, parent and visitor reception; and building security support.
  • Reports to the grants manager with demographic and participation data.
  • Assists organizational leadership with marketing efforts for member recruitment and retention (includes flyers, social media, brochures, etc.).
  • Responsible for membership communications including the newsletter for overall retention efforts.
  • Supervises the membership associate and other membership/reception related staff.
  • Responsible for the membership & registration budget.
  • Supports the mission of GCYC.
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth.
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members.
  • Takes on other duties as needed.
  • Serves as a role model for youth and community.
  • Abides by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures.
  • Completes Special projects as assigned by the Center Director.
Experience & Education
  • Five years or more of experience working as an administrative leader in the area of recruitment & retention services, membership services or related field.
  • Two years or more of experience as a supervisor or leader of a team.
  • Undergraduate degree required. Masters degree is a plus.

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
