Youth Employment Manager

Position Summary

The Youth Employment Manager serves as the organizational leader in the area of workforce development for our youth and young adult members.  This leader is responsible for the management of our efforts in this area ensuring that our members are receiving the career counseling support they need along with connecting them to opportunities or resources to improve their lives in the form of internships, apprenticeships or job placement.  Additionally, the Youth Employment Manager manages the provision of career and workplace instruction for the organization.   As a part of this role, the Youth Employment Manager represents the organization externally by attending and participating in community meetings, coalitions and funder meetings/work groups focused on workforce development and career counseling.  Additionally, this leader will manage the relationships with organizational partners providing workforce development supports for our youth on and off campus.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • At least five years of professional experience providing instruction or providing career education or workforce development supports youth in an urban setting.
  • Experience with job placement is preferred.
  • Prior leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Able to communicate effectively with youth, co-workers, stakeholders and families.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the youth development philosophy.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of guidance and discipline principles as well as conflict resolution strategies.
  • Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care.
  • Strong meeting facilitation, project management and presentation skills.
  • Competency in MS office applications specifically Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Must be open and willing to learn and become proficient at any other software/technology system required for the job.
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the provision of workforce development opportunities for our youth and youth adult members including internships, apprenticeships and job placement.
  • Lead and supervise the provision of career education and work place skills instruction.
  • Manage all aspects of the career development and youth employment programs offered at the Center.
  • Responsible for all managerial facets of staff supervision including screening, hiring, training and providing formal, ongoing performance evaluation.
  • Responsible for data management related to youth employment and career development including but not limited to date entry monitoring; monthly assessments and analysis.
  • Responsible for agency level reporting and analysis related to youth employment for the organization.
  • Grants management leader for the youth employment component of grants awarded to the Youth Center, specifically the Community-Based Violence Prevention Grant.
  • Represents GCYC with partners on and off campus.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty for the organization as assigned.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Supports the mission of GCYC.
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth.
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members.
  • Takes on other duties as needed.
  • Serves as a role model for youth and community.
  • Abides by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
Environment & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and do building and program rounds.
  • Ability to share an office with a colleague.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work at least one night a week during the school year for youth and family support.
