Youth Instructors: Urban Agriculture and Bicycle Programs

Position Summary

We are seeking motivated, professional, experienced and dynamic individuals to be part of the GCYC urban agriculture and biking programs. The paid positions are part-time (10- 20 hours) and seasonal (flexible start dates in May – June; end dates in August - September). The instructors will teach youth ages 8 – 18 in one of two programs: urban agriculture (farm-to-fork program including agriculture, business and culinary) and/or bicycles (maintenance, repair, riding skills). Schedule:  Instructors will work part-time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday – Friday. Ideal candidates will have experience working with youth in a bike and/or urban agriculture program. Instructors will report to the GCYC Urban Agriculture Director.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Knowledge of youth development and programming principles
  • Demonstrable cultural competency with a dedication to working with youth, families and community members
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve effectively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Teach youth in classes focused on urban agriculture (agriculture, business and culinary) and bicycling (riding instruction, maintenance/repair and transportation
  • Organize and lead workshops, field trips, career days and community service days for youth and families
  • Manage daily program operations, including record keeping and administrative duties
  • Facilitate youth participation and leadership
  • Provide leadership and supervision of youth
  • Work collaboratively with all GCYC departments, including volunteers and external partners
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings as required
Experience & Education
  • Minimum of two years of experience working directly with 6th through 12th grade youth in a program with a demonstrated track record of supporting high school graduation and career readiness.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with significant experience in urban agriculture, bicycling and culinary areas.
  • College degree, BA or BS required
Environment & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and work outdoors in all types of weather
