Youth Worker (Music Production Focus)

Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Position Summary

The Youth Worker (Music Production Focus) provides music production related programming focusing on for Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC) members as well as assists with the management of recording studio areas and equipment.  The position reports to the Program Director. 

 * Limited Term Employees understand that Gary Comer Youth Center is an at will employer and that this position is for a limited and specific time and as such cannot offer employee benefits or any employment hours outside of the specified term. 

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Flexible schedule for evening and weekend hours; works extended hours for summer program if retained for summer program
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of youth development/programming principles.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of guidance and discipline principles as well as conflict resolution strategies.
  • Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community members in our care
  • Strong competency in Microsoft office suite, Adobe and current desktop publishing applications; also must have strong competency of web-based applications
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements and /or manages GCYC music production related programs as well as the ability to run general youth development programming
  • Maintains program visuals including flyers and bulletin boards
  • Responsible for serving as a youth development coach for 10-15 youth
  • Maintains recording studio program equipment as well as program areas under guidance of the recording studio engineer
  • Attends all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Responsible for maintaining the recording studio program equipment and inventory
  • Required to develop program plans; complete program evaluations and all other necessary reporting
  • Assists in the organization and implementation of visual art related special activities/events, as well as spring break & specialty camps
  • Supports the mission of GCYC
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members
  • Takes on other duties as needed

Experience & Education
  • Two plus years of experience working directly with youth and program development preferred. Youth development certification a plus; Must have a background in music production or related field.
