Exciting News on the Comer Education Campus!

2.28.19  |  For Immediate Release

Dear Friends,

Over the past year, our board has engaged in a planning process to provide strategic direction for the future of the Comer Education Campus and Gary Comer Youth Center. To advance our mission forward, our plans include commitments to:

  • Further develop our career pathway offerings for middle and high school students in order to better prepare them for the rapidly changing nature of society and the workplace;
  • Transition from our founder’s board to an independent board of directors;
  • Scale our college and career support initiatives, restructured under a separate entity to serve young adults beyond our south side campus.

As part of this transition, I have some exciting leadership announcements to share. First, Greg Mooney has been promoted to President and Executive Director of the Comer Science & Education Foundation and will serve as the inaugural Board Chair of the Comer Education Campus. In his new capacity with the Foundation, Greg also will lead the strategic development of the separate post-secondary entity, which will scale beyond our campus in partnership with other organizations. Greg has done an outstanding job for more than 16 years building and overseeing the Comer Education Campus, and we are extremely fortunate to have his continued leadership as we launch into this next phase of our mission.

In light of Greg’s new role, we are initiating a search for an Executive Director of the Comer Education Campus to carry forward the mission, vision and outstanding track record of empowering young people on Chicago’s South Side. We have formed a search committee and retained Koya Leadership Partners to facilitate this important process. A position profile for this unique leadership opportunity can be found here.

As we embark upon this next phase, we remain deeply committed to our core mission and the long-term success of our youth and young adults. I want to express my appreciation for all the many ways you continue to help advance this important work!

Sincerely,

Guy Comer
Chair, Comer Science and Education Foundation
